In the preservation of the national identity and continuity of the statehood of Serbian people that has lasted for more than two centuries, 23 April plays a significant role for the Republic of Serbia and the Serbian Armed Forces. This date is celebrated in the memory of the day in 1815 when the decision to start the Second Serbian Uprising for the liberation of Serbia from the Ottoman Empire was made. From the state and military perspective, this date is known as one of the historical milestones which led to the creation of the modern Serbian state and enabled the creation of an operative and contemporary Serbian Armed Forces.

Even with complex conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, last year the Serbian Armed Forces continued to professionally conduct dedicated tasks, with a particular accent on the mission to help civilian authorities in opposing security threats.
