29/12/2017 Women's national team of the Basketball Association of Belgrade won the International Basketball Tournament in Kortrijk

The international basketball tournament was held in the Belgian city of Kortrijk from 27 to 29 December 2017 with the participation of the women's and men's selection of the Basketball Association of Belgrade.

The head of the delegation was Nenad Pujaz, a member of the presidency of the Basketball Association of Belgrade. Women's selection under 17 years won the first place and men’s selection under 19 years the ninth (out of 20).

The final match with the Belgian team DB Waregem was attended by Minister Irena Banovčanin, who handed the gold medals and trophy to the winners of the Tournament.

In the half-time of the final match, the organizers handed the mascot of the Tournament to brother of Dejan Dimitrijevic, the former president of the Basketball Association of Belgrade, who died in July 2017 and with whom they had long and successful cooperation.

Ambassador Marina Jovićević met with the member of the Chamber of Representatives in the Belgian Parliament, Kuen Metsu, who is the vice president of the Interparliamentary Union in the Belgian Parliament for cooperation with Serbia and Mayor of Edegem. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Antwerp Mr. Aleksandar Davidović attended the meeting. They discussed possibilities for enhancing economic cooperation between Serbia and Belgium, the process of negotiations of the Republic of Serbia for membership in the European Union, the challenges that Serbia is facing on this road and the challenges that the EU has seen in the recent years.

15/12/2017 The decision on abolishing visas for citizens of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, holders of all passports

On Tuesday, 19th December 2017, the decision on abolishing visas for citizens of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, holders of all passports, will come into force, according to which they may enter, transit and stay on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, no longer than 30 days within a period of one year from the date of entry into the Republic of Serbia.

The decision was made at the session of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, held on 8th December 2017.

12/12/2017 Ambassador Marina met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Internal Affairs and Security Mr. Jan Jambon

Ambassador Marina met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Internal Affairs and Security Mr. Jan Jambon. The meeting was also attended by the Liaison Officer of the Serbian Ministry of Interior Ms. Zorana Lazarov. During the talks, the cooperation between the two ministries, primarily in the fight against terrorism, was discussed, being conducted on the basis of the Agreement signed during the visit of Minister Janbon to Serbia in January 2017. It is estimated that there is an additional potential for strengthening cooperation, which will be implemented on the basis of the Action Plan that is being developed. The situation regarding migrant movements was also discussed, as well as progress of the Republic of Serbia in the accession talks with the EU.

12/12/2017 Visit of the Group of Friendship with the Kingdom of Belgium of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Brussels

 

Invited by the Interparliamentary Union in the Parliament of the K. Belgium, the delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia, composed of Marko Parezanovic, the President of the Friendship Group with Belgium and Snezana Paunovic, a deputy, visited Belgium from 03-05. December this year.

They met with the representatives of the Belgium Parliament and the Flemish Parliament, they visited the Chamber of Commerce of Belgium and Besix, the largest construction company in Benelux.

They talked about cooperation between Serbia and Belgium and about the ways to expand cooperation, as well as Serbia's path to the EU, and how to overcome obstacles along the way. In the economic part of the visit, the emphasis was on the possibilities for larger investments of Belgian companies in the economy of the Republic of Serbia.

Ambassador Marina Jovicevic visited company Metes from Dilsem-Stokken and on that occasion met with Metes CEO Mr. Eduard Rutten and Ms. Katherine Dresen, Director for International Trade and Innovation in VOKA Limburg. The main topic of the discussion was raising the awareness of Belgian business circles regarding economic potentials and presenting Serbia's investment opportunities. It was also discussed about the growth of company Metech in Serbia in the previous 10 years, the establishment and operation of the Free Zone Smederevo, the interest of other Belgian companies for doing business in Serbia, and the possibilities for improving the business and better visibility of Serbia in the local business circles.

21/11/2017 Visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Marina Jovićević to the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium Steven Vandeput

 

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Marina Jovićević met the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium Steven Vandeput on 21 November 2017.

During the meeting it was discussed about bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Belgium, support to Serbian EU integration process with the special emphasis on the cooperation in the field of defence and possibilities for its further improvement.

22/11/2017 Football match played between the representatives of the Embassy of Serbia and the missions of the Republic of Serbia in the EU and NATO and the team of the Parliament of Belgium.

 

The proof of the unbreakable link between diplomacy and sports is also a friendly football match played between the representatives of the Embassy of Serbia and the missions of the Republic of Serbia in the EU and NATO and the team of the Parliament of Belgium. The match was played on October 21, 2017, near Brussels. Observing the match from the sporty angle, there were serious chances in both halves, to the satisfaction of both teams. A quick and harsh game resulted in ovations of the spectators. Not only from the sporty angle, there were a fair play, which should be seen more often in professional football.

14/11/2017 Commemoration of the 2017 Armistice Day in World War I

 

On the occasion of 11th November, Armistice Day in World War I, the ambassador of Serbia in Belgium, Marina Jovićević and consul Ana Kosovac visited the cemetery Robermont in Liege and laid garlands at the monument to Serbian soldiers killed at the Belgium territory and Allied monument which is dedicated to all the Liberation forces in the First World War.

 

The ceremony was attended, also by representatives of France, Italy, USA, Russia, Poland, Belgium and the Federal Republic of Germany. After laying a garland, flags of the European Union and Belgium were officially raised, with the anthems.
