In honor of the Serbian people and Serbia, on 15 February in Brussels, the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia was marked for the fourteenth time by dressing the famous Brussels statue and emblem of the city “Manneken Pis” in the Šumadija folk costume.

On 15 February, the Statehood Day also known as Sretenje, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Kingdom of Belgium, in cooperation with representatives of the city of Brussels and the Belgian association “Friends of Manneken Pis”, together with the members of the Serbian diplomatic missions in Brussels, our fellow citizens living in Belgium and numerous friends of Serbia, gathered on the famous Brussels square, where the Statehood Day was celebrated.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Belgium, Aleksandar Tasić, addressed the audience, speaking about the Serbian tradition of freedom and rebellion and the history of Sretenje, as well as the long tradition of bilateral relations between Serbia and Belgium, given that 2026 marks the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Those gathered had the opportunity to try Serbian specialties such as homemade pastry and cakes, as well as to taste the real homemade plum brandy.
