Dressing of a statue of Maneken Pis in Serbian national costume - celebration of National Day of the Republic of Serbia

On February 15, 2020, as part of the celebration of National Day of the Republic of Serbia, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Brussels, in cooperation with the Department of Culture of the City of Brussels and the Order of the Friends of Maneken Pis, organized a ceremony of dressing the Maneken Pis in Serbian folk costume. The attendees were addressed by E. Vandenhaut, President of the Order of Friends of Maneken Pis and M. Guebel, PR of the Order of Friends of Maneken Pis. V. Lalić, Head of the Consular Section introduced the attendees to the history of celebrating Sretenje, as the day of the beginning of the First Serbian uprising in 1804 and the adoption of the Sretenje Constitution in 1835, one of the most modern and liberal constitutions of its time, made following, among others, Belgium constitutional model from 1831. At the end of the ceremony, the guests were served with homemade bread, pies and rakija, symbols of Serbian hospitality.
