Celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Serbia in Brussels

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Brussels, the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the EU and the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to NATO organized, on February 20, 2019, a formal reception marking the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, whose motto was "Serbia creates".

The reception was attended by numerous representatives of the federal and regional authorities of the Kingdom of Belgium, military and security structures, as well as representatives of universities, cultural institutions, the business sector and other institutions, including the media and the non-governmental sector. The reception was attended by a large number of Serbian diaspora members in the Kingdom of Belgium.

At the reception, after the intonation of the anthem of the Republic of Serbia, the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU, all three ambassadors addressed to the guests. Ambassador Marina Jovićević explained the importance of Sretenje for the Serbian people and highlighted the links between Serbia and Belgium on the economic and political agenda. She also pointed out the need to resolve the status of KiM and the need to abolish the tax on goods from central Serbia of 100% that Priština introduced. She highlighted the importance of Resolution SC UN 1244 and congratulated Belgium on her election as a non-permanent member of SC UN 2019-20. She stressed that bilateral relations have been intensified since 2018, which has also been manifested through visits and talks by top officials, starting with the official visit of prime minister of Belgium to Serbia, through the visit of the deputy prime minister and minister of interior of Serbia to Belgium and the talks of president of the Republic of Serbia with the deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Belgium. She gave a brief overview of Belgian investments (the third largest investment ever of almost a billion euros), foreign trade relations and the announcement of further investments. She expressed her gratitude for supporting the European integration of Serbia and training in European affairs. She also mentioned good cooperation in the area of internal affairs, migration and security. She expressed gratitude for the joint commemoration of 100 years since the end of the First World War, in which the two countries suffered huge losses. The last part of the speech addressed to the Serbs in Belgium and their role in the local society.

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy the traditional Serbian food and wines of well known Serbian producers. The organization of the reception was supported by the Petroleum Industry of Serbia and Filip Moris.
